String Quartet Marathon Evening
String Quartet Marathon Evening
Tuesday February 28 2017 - 17:00
Duration : 5h

As part of the Montréal/Nouvelles Musiques (MNM) festival, the Arte Musical Foundation joins the SMCQ in presenting a marathon of string quartets featuring three different ensembles.

Discover (or rediscover) creators from Montreal, from John REA to Claude VIVIER and Ana SOKOLOVIC to Jean LESAGE. Reputed iconoclast John ZORN completes this evening by reminding us that the string quartet, quite simply, is the quintessential vehicle for all compositions. The event is one of many great ways to celebrate the SMCQ’s 50th anniversary!

Food and drinks available at the bar between concerts.

Ticket valid for the three concerts.

Sonia Del Re, Ph.D., Associate Curator, National Gallery of Canada, Ottawa

Imbued with ethereal reverie, Marc Chagall’s playful art proposes an optimistic vision of the world. The semi-erotic idylls of the goatherd Daphnis and shepherdess Chloé provide a felicitous scenario for his unique expressivity and kaleidoscopic palette. A gifted illustrator, the artist nevertheless laboured for years to achieve his masterpiece of printmaking: the suite of lithographs Daphnis & Chloé.

Presented in collaboration with the Montreal Print Collectors’ Society

Migration in music
Saturday March 4 2017 - 19:30
Duration : 1h 30

The Trio tells the story of the migrants! The musicians will interpret the great works of composers who left their countries behind them, carried along by the tide of history. They drew hope from their new homes and local folklore, or brought with them the nostalgia and inspiration of their native lands. This is a concert of works where romantic passion is the common denominator, with, as its backdrop, the eternal question of identity … in music!

The pianist Michel-Alexandre Broekaert will replace Wonny Song for the Artists in Migration concert. We take this opportunity to wish a happy parental leave to our regular pianist!
