The African gallery features some of the best works from the Museum's collection of African art, which was founded in 1940. The result of a collaborative effort between the MMFA, McGill University's Redpath Museum and Cirque du Soleil, Sacred Africa II features some 50 masterpieces that celebrate the continent's three main regions: West Africa, Central Africa and East Africa. These striking works include a mmwo maiden mask by the Igbo people of Nigeria, a gurunsi antelope mask from Burkina Faso and a seated figure typical of the Dogon culture of Mali.
