Marie Louise Pépin, a visual arts teacher at the Collège de Bois-de-Boulogne, and her Montreal students have been involved in an enriching co-operative art programme of artistic exchanges with students in Cuba. Drawing inspiration from Magic Realism, a term employed by literary and art critics after 1925, the Quebec and Cuban students create artworks of outstanding quality that combine the real and the magical. Beyond the details that indicate where the students come from, the works speak of the daily lives, concerns and hopes of young people, without censorship and without borders.

This year, for the first time, the exhibition also presents works by primary- and secondary-school pupils, which adds a new dimension to the project.
