The Art of Madeleine Dansereau, Jeweller
May 24 to October 27, 1996
From May 24 to October 27, 1996, the Museum presented an exhibition devoted to Quebec's pre-eminent female jeweller, Madeleine Dansereau, who co-founded with Armand Brochard the École de Joaillerie et de Métaux d'Art de Montréal in 1974.
Madeleine Dansereau began her career in 1959 with Swiss jeweller Philippe Vauthier. Her first solo exhibition took place fourteen years later at Ferroni's in Montreal. Until her death in 1991, her career was marked by her daring creations, such as her adornments inspired by ancient myths and her designs for various prizes and trophies. The Museum is thrilled to have a beautiful collection of jewellery she created after antique pieces in its collection.
The exhibition The Art of Madeleine Dansereau, Jeweller, organized by the Education and Public Programmes Department in collaboration with the artist's daughter Stéphanie Dansereau, was a tribute both to her creativity and her work as a devoted Museum Volunteer.
