Terms and conditions for using the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts Web site
The mission of the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts is to attract the broadest possible audience by offering privileged access to a universal artistic heritage. To carry out this mission, the Museum provides its Web site primarily as a source for information, education and communication. Please read the following terms and conditions that govern access to the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts Web site and its use.

Confidentiality
The Museum respects the Canada's Privacy Act with the respect to the protection of personal information. The Montreal Museum of Fine Arts Web site is equipped with physical and electronic firewalls as well as management procedures for protecting the data transmitted. The Museum never transmits or conserves information about credit cards. This information is transmitted directly to the financial institutions that process the transaction. Although the Museum never gives out personal information about its Web site visitors, it is possible that some e-mail addresses are occasionally forwarded to reputable organizations whose products and services might interest its Web visitors. Personal information and cookies
The Museum collects information on the use of its site on the basis of site-traffic statistics and comments submitted by visitors. For some sections of its site, the Museum also uses cookies to gain a better understanding of the different ways the site is used. Cookies are specific text files used for identification, which are saved to the hard drive of the visitor’s computer. They serve solely to identify the visitor’s browser and do not reveal his or her identity in any way. In some cases, cookies are deleted when the browser is closed.

The Museum does not distribute, sell, trade or rent any personal information to other persons or organizations. The Museum may compile overall data on site visitors, customers, sales, traffic patterns and other relevant information and present it to third parties, but these statistics contain no information that could be used to identify visitors. When a visitor makes an online purchase at the Boutique, the Museum may divulge information on the visitor’s account if this is reasonably necessary under the law, the application of terms and conditions for using the Museum’s Web site or protection of the rights, property and security of the Museum, its users and third parties.

When an online purchase is made at the Boutique, the Museum requires only such information as needed to process the transaction. Information regarding your credit card is used exclusively for the transaction and is never conserved by the Museum.

In general, the main personal information you will be asked to provide on the Museum’s site is:

  • E-mail address
  • Postal code
  • Language of correspondence
  • Telephone number

If you make purchases at the Boutique or any other type of commercial transaction on its Web site, the Museum may request additional information such as:

  • Your credit card number
  • Your telephone number
  • Your postal address

Use of this site by children
The Museum does not require minors to provide personal information. Visitors aged 18 and under must obtain permission from a parent or guardian before entering their personal information on the Museum's Web site. Since there is no technology for confirming the exact age of people who visit the site, the Museum relies on their good faith as proof that they agree to this clause.
