Montréal, le 12 février 2013– Pour la 10^eédition de la Nuit blanche du Festival MONTRÉAL EN LUMIÈRE organisée le samedi 2 mars prochain, le Musée des beaux-arts de Montréal (MBAM) propose à ses visiteurs un voyage sensoriel au Pérou au cours d’une soirée caliente aux saveurs latino-américaines. LE PÉROU ET LES ROYAUMES DU SOLEIL UNE SEMAINE DE RELÂCHE SOUS LE SIGNE DE LA DÉCOUVERTE AU MUSÉE DES BEAUX-ARTS DE MONTRÉAL

Montréal, le 22 février 2013 – Pendant la semaine de relâche, venez créer et explorer en familles le Royaume du Soleil péruvien au Musée des beaux-arts de Montréal (MBAM). Dans le cadre de son exposition phare Pérou : royaumes du Soleil et de la Lune, les enfants et leurs parents pourront confectionner un médaillon aux motifs et symboles péruviens, en apprendre plus sur la conception de bijoux de ce pays, participer à des jeux de piste ou encore prendre part à des visites guidées adaptées aux enfants et visionner un film présenté en exclusivité au Musée. Pour ces vacances, le MBAM se transforme en Cités d’or pour les familles!

EDUCATION FROM THE HEART

Montreal, February 18, 2013– For over ten years, the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts’ Education and Community Programmes Department has been offering free educational activities that starts from the heartto community groups working with people who would not otherwise visit the Museum: Sharing the Museum. To date, nearly 200,000 people - immigrants and refugees, people suffering from mental-health problems, youth at risk, senior citizens living on low incomes, people with literacy difficulties, disadvantaged children, families and adults, people with physical or intellectual disabilities and cultural communities - of over 300 community organizations have benefited from this programme. Over the years, the MMFA have also developed special projects with more than fifty groups who requested programmes designed to meet their needs and interests. Many of these groups have also had the artwork they created during these activities displayed in the Museum’s educational spaces.

QUAND L'ART VIENT EN AIDE AUX ENFANTS QUI SOUFFRENT D'INTIMIDATION

Montréal, le 18 février 2013– La Fondation Jasmin Roy et le Musée des beaux-arts de Montréal (MBAM) sont fiers d’annoncer un nouveau partenariat, qui vise à sensibiliser et à mobiliser les jeunes, les milieux scolaires et la population québécoise autour d’un même thème : l’intimidation. Cette collaboration concrétise la rencontre de la jeunesse et de la culture, l’art étant un véhicule extraordinaire pour sensibiliser les jeunes à un sujet délicat et complexe comme celui de l’intimidation. En s’appuyant sur le programme Le Musée s’affiche à l’école et en aidant à la création d’un nouveau parcours artistique intitulé L’Art d’être humain, la Fondation Jasmin Roy peut maintenant compter sur la précieuse collaboration du MBAM afin de déployer son action dans les écoles du Québec et de contribuer au bien-être des jeunes.

PRODUITE ET MISE EN TOURNÉE PAR LE MUSÉE DES BEAUX-ARTS DE MONTRÉAL L'EXPOSITION LA PLANÈTE MODE DE JEAN PAUL GAULTIER FAIT UNE ENTRÉE FRACASSANTE À LA KUNSTHALLE DE ROTTERDAM

Montréal, le 7 février 2013– Initiée, conçue, produite et mise en tournée par le Musée des beaux-arts de Montréal (MBAM) sous la direction de Nathalie Bondil, directrice et conservatrice en chef du MBAM, l’exposition La planète mode de Jean Paul Gaultier. De la rue aux étoiles, première exposition internationale consacrée au célèbre couturier français, continue de susciter l’enthousiasme à travers le monde. Après avoir conquis plus de 700 000 visiteurs à Montréal, Dallas, San Francisco et Madrid, l’exposition est désormais présentée à la Kunsthalle de Rotterdam (Pays-Bas) du 10 février au 12 mai prochain.

THREE QUEBEC ARCHITECTURAL FIRMS SELECTED AS FINALISTS IN THE ARCHITECTURAL COMPETITION FOR THE CONSTRUCTION OF THE MONTREAL MUSEUM OF FINE ARTS' FIFTH PAVILION

Montreal, February 4, 2013– Last December, the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts (MMFA) launched an architectural competition in the presence of Maka Kotto, Quebec Minister of Culture and Communications, for the construction of its Fifth Pavilion. Following the jury’s deliberation, Les Architectes FABG, the consortium of Manon Asselin architecte + Jodoin Lamarre Pratte & associés architectes and Saucier + Perrotte Architectes have been selected to go on to the second phase of the competition, which consists in drawing up plans for the construction of the MMFA’s Fifth Pavilion, which will feature the collection of European art, from Old Masters to Modern Art, enriched by works offered by Mr. and Mrs. Hornstein. This competition was open to all architects in Quebec in accordance with the regulations governing the Ordre des architectes du Quebec (OAQ) and those established by the Ministère de la Culture et des Communications du Québec.

WORLD PREMIERE OF PERU: KINGDOMS OF THE SUN AND THE MOON

Montreal, January 29, 2013– From February 2 to June 16, 2013, the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts (MMFA) is presenting the world premiere of Peru: Kingdoms of the Sun and the Moon – Identities and Conquest in the Ancient, Colonial and Modern Eras. Initiated, produced and circulated by the MMFA, this exhibition displays an extensive collection of pre-Columbian treasures and masterpieces from the colonial era to Indigenism, including over 100 pieces that have never before been seen outside Peru. With more than 370 works of art (paintings, sculptures, gold and silver ornaments, pottery, photograph, works on paper, textiles and videos) from almost fifty public and private collections, including more than thirty Peruvian collections but also some from the United States (The Metropolitan Museum of Art, The Museum of Modern Art, New Orleans Museum of Art), France (Musée du quai Branly), Germany and elsewhere in Canada, this exhibition covers 3,000 years of history, including archaeological discoveries in recent decades. The Museum would like to thank its many Peruvian partners and collaborators, especially the Peruvian Ministry of Culture, and the Seattle Art Museum.

NATHALIE BONDIL, DIRECTOR AND CHIEF CURATOR OF THE MONTREAL MUSEUM OF FINE ARTS, IS AWARDED THE SAMUEL DE CHAMPLAIN PRIZE

Montreal, January 22, 2013– Nathalie Bondil, the French-born Canadian Director and Chief Curator of the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts (MMFA), was awarded the Samuel de Champlain Prize yesterday at the Institut France-Amériques in Paris, in the presence of the Canadian Ambassador to France and Quebec’s Delegate General in Paris in recognition of her contribution to the prestigious cultural institution she has headed for the past six years.
