Exploring Japanese Calligraphy

Discover the very essence of line through Oriental brushwork and cursive calligraphy of hiragana characters in this profoundly meditative workshop.

Materials to bring: a bottle of China in, 2 brushes(a large one and a medium one- the owner of the Galérie de Chine knows which ones to buy); a roll of rice paper. All material is available at the  Galerie de Chine, 94 rue de la Gauchetière Ouest, Montréal, tel. 514-878-2116, opened from 11 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.

Instructor: Claire Sugai, artist and calligrapher

Claire Sugai spent 12 years in Japan, studying with masters of hiragana calligraphy, sumi-e and nihonga painting, ceramics, sculpture and ikebana. She has a degree from the Kyoto City University of Arts. Her art is featured in collections in Japan, Italy, the U.S. and Canada. She is currently working on a solo show.

Cancellations made seven (7) business days or more before the first class for which you registered will be refunded in full, less a $50 administrative fee. No refunds will be granted for cancellations made less than seven (7) business days before the activity begins, unless the cancellation is made for medical reasons, in which case a doctor’s note is required and fees will be refunded in full.
