Through an exploration of Arabic, Persian, Mudéjar and Ottoman art, this series of workshops is an opportunity to become acquainted with the major aspects of Islamic art, calligraphy and the art of the arabesque, as well as contemporary expressions of these arts. Through practical exercises and the works created, presentations on relevant themes, and comments on a selection of works held by the Museum, participants will acquire the keys to reading and understanding the complexity of this civilization, which has a rich history of over 1200 years and extends across three continents, from Spain to Southeast Asia.

In 1720, the composer Benedetto Marcello published a pamphlet entitled Il Teatro alla moda, in which he strongly attacked in an ironic way what he considered to be the shortcomings of the opera of his day. In 2015, the warm French violinist Amandine Beyer chose this as the title of her all-Vivaldi recording and she reverts to it once more for this concert of Italian concertante music reuniting no less than seven of her contemporaries. According to her, “each of the ‘qualities’ thus teased” is exactly what makes the panache of this music.
