The Montreal Museum of Fine Arts is a private non-profit organization that needs to fund 50% of its annual revenue requirements through its own independent operations. To achieve this target and continue its mission, the museum needs partners. The museum also receives government subsidies.
The Montreal Museum of Fine Arts therefore wishes to thank the following institutions and entities for their unfailing support:
The Quebec Ministry of Culture, Communications and Advancement of Women
Every year, the Quebec Ministry of Culture, Communications and Advancement of Women provides the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts with essential support. The museum has enjoyed the Ministry's support since 21 December 1972 when Bill 68 was passed into law by the Quebec National Assembly, and the museum and Ministry embarked on a long and fruitful partnership. A turning point in the museum's history came in 1972 when this partnership produced concrete long-term solutions to the underfunding and lack of space the museum was suffering at the time. That year, the government of Quebec appointed 12 of the 27 members of the board of the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts.
Thanks to the insurance program for travelling exhibitions in Canada sponsored by Heritage Canada (the government department responsible for promoting the country's heritage) the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts is now able to host high-value exhibitions and works of art. In fact, the government of Canada insures works of art in transit and at stopovers, thereby covering some of the risks and expenses involved in transporting exhibits. The Montreal Museum of Fine Arts wishes to thank Heritage Canada for enabling it to make world heritage more accessible to the people of Quebec and Canada.
The museum would also like to thank Heritage Canada for its support in circulating exhibitions of Canadian art, through its Museums Assistance Program. The program aims to keep Canada's history alive and promote interprovincial cooperation.
Canada Council for the Arts
The Canada Council for the Arts helps the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts produce and host temporary exhibitions of contemporary art and to acquire contemporary Canadian art.
Conseil des arts de Montréal
The Montreal Museum of Fine Arts wishes to thank the Conseil des arts de Montréal for its support as part of the general program to help with the long-term funding of museum operations. This funding supports all museum activities across the board. The Conseil des arts de Montréal has supported the museum for many years.
Association des bénévoles du Musée des beaux-arts de Montréal
An association of volunteers, the Bénévoles du Musée run a wide range of events to raise funds, such as the famous annual Ball. The money collected is donated to the museum and used for new acquisitions, for hosting exhibitions, and for publications.
Air Canada has been a loyal museum partner for many years. It helps the museum operate travelling exhibits and bring personalities and journalists on assignment to the MMFA from around the world.
Paul G. Desmarais Fund
Like all the big museums and universities in North America, the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts receives funds earmarked for major international exhibitions. The Paul G. Desmarais Fund is one of these.
The Exhibition Fund of the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts Foundation
To fund its major international exhibitions, the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts can call on a range of funds earmarked for specific purposes. One of these is the MMFA Foundation's Exhibition Fund.
