This workshop focuses on the creation and development of personal iconography through general mark making in painting and drawing media. We will take a look at the work of contemporary artists such as Jean-Michel Basquiat, as well as uncover meaningful symbols, words and painterly gestures reflecting our own unique experiences and styles. All in all, it will provide you with an opportunity to deepen your artistic vocabulary and learn new techniques and approaches to art making.

Instructor: Melanie Matthews, artist and art educator

About The Museum's School of Art
Now that we are well into fall with Thanksgiving celebrations behind us, it’s the perfect time to sign up for one of our workshops and explore your creative abilities. Our senior artist instructors will provide expert guidance on a variety of techniques, which range from the classic, like Japanese calligraphy, to the more unusual, like drawing and sculpting hybrid creatures.
