In connection with the exhibition Parall(elles): A History of Women in Design, the Museum’s School for the Arts has teamed up with Montreal-based community workshop Les Affûtés to offer a variety of courses that teach handicraft skills! Please note that these courses are given in French.

During this course, Fabienne Clément, basketry craftswoman, will share her know-how with you by guiding you through different techniques for weaving and tightening rattan. Perfect for beginners or to offer as a gift, over the course of 3 hours you will learn to make a basket, ideal to hold bread, fruits, or any other small objects. You will learn different basketry techniques to make a well-finished basket that lasts over time such as: starting your weaving row by row from a round wooden base, inserting colored rattan strands, and finishing your basket with a border.
