Original English version.

Bob Hoskins : Best Actor at Cannes Film Festival (1986) - Best actor at 1987 BAFTA - Best actor at 1987 Golden Globes

Format 35mm.

Set in London's sleazy criminal underworld, small-time crook George (Bob Hoskins) gives a giant performance as an ex-con reduced to chauffeuring West End call girl Simone (Cathy Tyson). Michael Caine is perfectly cast as the villainous vice-king Mortwell, who employs George to drive Simone around to expensive hotels to visit her clients. An unlikely relationship blossoms as George finds himself falling in love with his passenger, and together they search the seedy dangerous side of town for her young hooker friend Cathy (Kate Hardie).

Director Neil Jordan is one of the national film treasures of Ireland having brought us IN THE COMPANY OF WOLVES, Oscar-winner THE CRYING GAME, IN DREAMS, INTERVIEW WITH THE VAMPIRE, MICHAEL COLLINS and END OF THE AFFAIR. Exec producer was George Harrison of The Beatles with a driving soundtrack by Michael Kamen.

MONA LISA was nominated for multiple major awards, and Bob Hoskins was nominated for several awards for his performance (including the Academy Award for Best Actor), winning the BAFTA Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role. Expect to be thrilled and very impressed by this superb British neo-noir.

Offered here is a crisp 35mm archival lab print which is the best way to see the proper colour scheme and exposure levels as intended by the director and his cinematographer. And for a film of this genre and style, that’s essential. So, come experience the ‘‘reel’’ thing on the big screen!
