This symposium comprising lectures, exchanges and discussions brings together artists, collectors, researchers and museum professionals. It examines the contribution of these changes to the valorization of artworks and the recognition of those involved in their musealization.

In this context, Anishinaabe artist Maria Hupfield will activate her work Jingle Spiral (2015), acquired by the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts in 2016, in an eponymous performance.

PROGRAM

  • Contemporary art acquisitions at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts: a discussion with Stéphane Aquin and Mary-Dailey Desmarais
  • When acquisition transforms contemporary art: presentation of the current review at the MAC, MMFA, NGC and MNBAQ
  • Session #1 – Reinvesting the collections: focus on artworks from the 1960s-1980s
  • Session #2 – Complementary contributions: artists, collectors, gallerists, curators, archivists
  • Round table – Agents of the artworks in the face of its musealization

This symposium of the Research and Inquiry Group CIÉCO is organized by the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts and the Axis 3 (Expanded Collection) of the New Uses of Collections in Art Museum Partnership, in collaboration with the Research Team Art and Museum
