Just like Joyce Wieland in the underground film scene of 1960s New York, women filmmakers in Quebec had to confront rampant stereotypes in the male-dominated film industry on this side of the border. A few of them succeeded in making their mark, appropriating the seventh art to talk about the everyday lives of a generation of women who wanted to break out of their gender mold.

To pay tribute to these pioneers, Cinéma du Musée, along with guest host Aurélie Lanctôt, invite you to attend a series of screenings and discussions around a selection of landmark works of Quebec feminist film.

This series of projections is presented as part of Joyce Wieland's exhibition at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts from February 8 to May 4, 2025.
