Images of hybrid, mythological and fantastic creatures have been a tradition for millennia. Just consider the winged creatures in ancient Assyrian art, or the sirens, harpies, and centaurs in classical Greek and Roman art. The tradition continues in contemporary times as well, in the works with shamanistic images by many Inuit artists that can be seen in our current exhibition, and those by Canadian artists David Altmejd and Shary Boyle, which are also on view in our galleries. In this fascinating workshop you will create your own fantastical hybrid creature in clay with Marcello Giorgi, a master sculptor whose work is represented worldwide in public spaces and museums. Students will learn how to build an armature and handle clay step by step.

Instructor: Marcello Giorgi, master sculptor and art educator

Tuesday to Friday, November 15-18
10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
