Cinéma du Musée invites you to dive into the close connection between cinema and painting.
From the influence of painter Jean-François Millet on the conception and direction of Agnès Varda’s The Gleaners and I, to the pictorial photography in Vazante by Daniela Thomas or Hero by Zhang Yimou, the series aims to highlight the influence of certain painters and artistic movements on cinema, and the various ways filmmakers have approached painting on screen.
Whether it's the very subject of the story (La Belle Noiseuse, Portrait of a Lady on Fire) or an essential reference for the direction (Barry Lyndon, The Decameron), these works offer an immersive experience shaped by the greatest visual artists.
All screenings will be presented by art history specialists from the academic and museum fields, who will explain the pictorial references in each film.
