The people of Putti, a village in eastern Uganda, have identified as Jews for over a century, largely unknown to the outside world. Enter the charismatic Rabbi Shlomo Riskin, offering the prospect of a prosperous new life in a distant land. Tamás Wormser documents their extraordinary encounter over seven years, crafting a nuanced feature documentary that reflects on contemporary Zionism, the complex character of the Diaspora and the long shadow of colonialism. The music of Putti, woven deeply into daily life, provides the film with its beating heart.
