Post-screening discussion with the director Mira Burt-Wintonick on Friday, March 26 at 6:30 pm.

When he died in 2013, Peter Wintonick was working on his “utopian film.” Mira Burt-Wintonick found nearly 300 videocassettes in his basement, with footage captured over more than 15 years. She decided to use them to fulfill her father’s last wish. Drawn entirely from Peter’s VHS archives, Wintopia’s editing is poetic rather than linear; it is free and creative, like its subject. It is the portrait of a visionary artist and a man who was as warm as he was hard to follow. Always in motion, crisscrossing the world on his singular quest, Peter was unifying, adventurous, inspiring – and often absent. This profoundly personal film gradually becomes the story of two reconciliations: between father and daughter, between film and life. The finest possible tribute to a titan of Canadian cinema.
