Largest educational complex at a North American art museum!

With 365 days until new pavilion opens, the countdown has begun.

One year ahead of the opening of the Michal and Renata Hornstein Pavilion for Peace for International Art and Education, the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts today unveiled its Michel de la Chenelière International Atelier for Education and Art Therapy.

It will open in November 2016 in the Michal and Renata Hornstein Pavilion for Peace, with a total area of 38,620 square feet, in addition to the current space in the Jean-Noël Desmarais Pavilion. The Atelier will welcome our community and school clienteles, as well as families, with specific areas for digital mediation, it will feature a cafeteria serving healthy meals, a Family Lounge, galleries, a safe school bus drop-off area, plus twelve studios (the number of studios at the MMFA increased from three to seven in 2012, and twelve in 2016).

Michel de la Chenelière, our major patron for Education, said:

“I see and hear moving testimonials from pupils, students, underprivileged families and people with a variety of mental and physical disorders who, thanks to the Museum, feel less lonely, less excluded. They rediscover their will to live and find their way in life,” said our major benefactor, Michel de la Chenelière. “Art is good for you: we observe this at the Museum every day. I would like to acknowledge the remarkably innovative work being done by Nathalie Bondil and her team. I offer them my heartfelt thanks for their impassioned involvement in this project. They have all my admiration and they are what motivates me every day.”

A laboratory for innovation, the Museum is leading the way by working with recognized experts from universities, the school system, health, research, social and community services, with support from the business and philanthropic communities.
