The year 2020 marks the 250th anniversary of Ludwig van Beethoven's birth, and the world came together to celebrate this momentous occasion. Bourgie Hall was no different: over 25 concerts were to be presented in honour of Beethoven's work, as part of our Beethoven 2020 Festival. The main highlight was the presentation of Beethoven's complete Piano Sonatas, one of the most important collections of piano works in the history of music, in seven recitals. We were thrilled to entrust its performance to Quebecois pianist Louis Lortie, who has an intimate knowledge of the corpus, having performed and recorded it in its entirety multiple times in his life.
Listen to Louis Lortie’s first two recitals on ICI Musique.
For a glimpse into these magnificent musical moments, we invite you to listen to this excerpt of Beethoven's sublime "Pathétique" Sonata, performed during the first recital.
The dates of the remaining five concerts are unknown due to the pandemic. But in the meantime, we can dream about those future moments while savouring the performances that have taken place.
