The Museum's Gift of the Holidays

The Montreal Museum of Fine Arts is very pleased to announce that the Museum’s Gift of the Holidays is back with in-person activities.

In keeping with tradition, to get a head start on celebrating the holiday season the MMFA is giving itself as a gift: from December 1 to 24, 2021, access to the collections will be free!

Reservations can be made online and are mandatory.

The permanent collection galleries open during this period are as follows:

  • The Michal and Renata Hornstein Pavilion for Peace for the Early to Modern International Art collection
  • The Stephan Crétier and Stéphany Maillery Wing for the Arts of One World
  • Two spaces featuring part of our International Contemporary Art collection

It will also be possible to (re)visit the following Discovery Exhibitions for free:

  • Ragnar Kjartansson, Sumarnótt: Death Is Elsewhere
An immersive video Installation that plunges viewers into the sublime beauty of the Icelandic countryside, Sumarnótt (2019) features images filmed during the midnight sun on a cold but bright summer night in the shadow of Laki Volcano.

  • MOMENTA X MMFA | Anne Duk Hee Jordan | Intimacy of Strangers For this exhibition, Anne Duk Hee Jordan has imagined a hybrid future in which terrestrial and aquatic worlds intersect and complex scenes of interspecies cohabitation unfurl.

  • Ecologies: A Song for Our Planet
The exhibition Ecologies comprises installations, videos, sculptures, paintings, drawings and photographs that speak to human beings’ relationship with nature. It brings together close to 90 works shown in rotation, the majority of them—including some recent acquisitions—from the Museum’s collection.

Give Echo a try

The month of December will also be an ideal time to give Echo, the MMFA’s new application using image recognition technology, a try.

The MyMMFA experience, available through the Echo application, can be accessed in the Michal and Renata Hornstein Pavilion for Peace and Stephan Crétier and Stéphany Maillery Wing for the Arts of One World, in the contemporary art galleries located on level S2 of the Jean-Noël Desmarais Pavilion, as well as in the exhibition Ecologies: A Song for Our Planet.

The MMFA is closed on Mondays, as well as on December 25, 2021 and January 1, 2022. On Sundays, December 26 and January 2, the Museum will open exceptionally at noon.

Please note that access to the exhibitions “How long does it take for one voice to reach another”, The World of Yousuf Karsh: A Private Essence and Outside the Frame: Works by Artists Among Us is not included in The Museum’s Gift of the Holidays.
