Jean-Moyse Raymond attended Collège Saint-Raphaël (later renamed Collège de Montréal) from 1798 to 1805. It dispensed the same education that prevailed in France under the Ancien Régime: Latin, Greek, religious history, ancient and modern history, geography, rhetoric, philosophy and science. Raymond is wearing the school’s uniform of a blue capote (outer robe) with white piping and an arrow sash. However, his long powdered hair and red jacket diverge from what would have been considered proper attire.
