About the gathering
Building on the Indigenous art exhibitions currently on at the MMFA, the gathering Entre nos archipels : Dialogues autochtones en contextes francophones will bring together leading Indigenous figures in the cultural domain from wide-ranging geographic and cultural horizons (Kanien’kehá:ka, Anishinaabe, Wendat, Ilnu, Eeyou, Inuit, Ininiwak, Atakapa Ishak, Kali’'na Tɨlewuyu, Ajamat, Malagasy, Mā’ohi, Tagata Sāmoa, etc.). However, one factor unites them all: the peoples to whom they belong were, at one point in their history, colonized by France.
Even though their political situations today differ one from the other, these peoples still use the French language as a vehicular language. While this fact serves as evidence of the colonial connection, it can also provide these peoples with a means to affirm their cultures and revitalize their ancestral languages.
It is to invoke this intended community – and the roles of the arts in a context in which French remains the language that at once unifies and distances – that we seek to bring together these artists and museum professionals to foster dialogue and the potential for new alliances. And since in Kanien’kéha, Tiohtià:ke means both “the place where the waters divide” and “the place where the waters meet,” the water that separates and unites the islands, archipelagos and continents will be the main flow of these exchanges and will lend its theme to the gathering’s four sessions.

Terms of the reservation: One reservation per person. This gives you access to the event on both days.
Please note that seat reservations are held until the beginning of the event. Once the activity has started, any unoccupied seats will be offered on a first-come, first-served basis.
Language: Simultaneous interpretation will be offered in English, free of charge.
