Creator of the TGV lamp for the SNCF and of the seats at Notre-Dame de Paris cathedral, French industrial designer Ionna Vautrin develops innovative products that are both functional and aesthetically pleasing. In this lecture, she looks back on the different stages of her career and her main projects.

About the speaker
Ionna Vautrin is a French designer known for creations that combine soft forms and precise lines in the service of public and private spaces. A 2002 graduate of the École de design Nantes Atlantique, she has successively worked for Camper in Spain, George J. Sowden in Italy, and Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec in France. She founded her own studio in 2011, after winning the Grand Prix de la Création de la Ville de Paris. She currently collaborates with various brands and institutions, including Foscarini, the SNCF, JCDecaux, Monoprix, Schneider Electric and the Notre-Dame de Paris cathedral.

Ionna designed the TGV lamp at the request of France’s national railway service SNCF, which installed it in its high-speed trains in 2017. In response to the lamp’s popularity, a domestic version was quickly co-produced with Moustache, making it the first object designed for a French train to be made available for use in the home. In 2023, Ionna was commissioned to design, in collaboration with the Bosc furniture company, the new chairs for the Notre-Dame de Paris cathedral, which was reopened to visitors and worshippers in December 2024.
