As a complement to the exhibition The Torlonia Collection: Masterpieces of Roman Sculpture, Cinéma du Musée, in collaboration with the MMFA, presents “Ancient Rome: The Great Classics,” a series of sword-and-sandal films set in Roman antiquity, a world of power games, intrigue and excesses.

PROGRAM

Spartacus

In the year 73 BC, a slave named Spartacus leads a rebellion against the Romans. Many slaves join the rebel, who repels the Roman troops sent to fight him. Spartacus leads his men to southern Italy to board ships bound for their countries of origin, but is defeated by the legions led by the senator Crassus. The surviving slaves are crucified along the Appian Way. (Mediafilm)
