In addition to the conversation, Keerat Kaur will present a short vocal performance that weaves together contemporary music with influences from Panjabi folk and Bollywood melodies.

Laura Vigo, Curator of Asian Art, MMFA

About the Speakers
Keerat Kaur is a Canadian artist of Sikh-Panjabi heritage with a background as a licensed architect (OAA). Her ever-evolving  multidisciplinary practice spans painting, sculpture, writing, music, public art, and architecture. Rooted in the written word, her work weaves narrative and symbolism to explore themes of nature and spirituality, drawing deeply from Indic philosophies. Educated in French immersion, she speaks Panjabi, French, and Hindi, and is currently studying the Shahmukhi script and the Braj language. She holds a BA from Western University (2012) and a Master of Architecture degree from the University of Toronto (2016), and continues to expand her practice through formal training in Indian classical music (Dhrupad and Khayaal) and traditional Pahari painting.

Laura Vigo, Curator of Asian Art at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, was involved in the installation of the permanent galleries of the MMFA’s Wing for the Arts of One World. In 2022, she inaugurated the Narinder Singh and Satinder Kaur Kapany collection of Sikh art. She was also the curator of the Montreal presentation of Obsession: Sir William Van Horne’s Japanese Ceramics in 2019 as well as Tōkaidō: Dreamscapes by Andō Hiroshige in 2024. Laura Vigo has a BA in Chinese Language and Art History from Ca’ Foscari University of Venice, as well as an MA in Asian Art and Archaeology, a postgraduate diploma in Asian Art, and a PhD in Archaeology from the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), University of London, United Kingdom.
