To mark the end of the 2025 Impressions Residency, Laura Vigo will speak with winner Lynn Kodeih. The Lebanese-Canadian artist, whose work focuses on mourning in the Eastern Mediterranean region, will discuss her practice and present the research-creation project she carried out at the Museum with a view to restoring the original ceremonial functions to a selection of objects from the Museum’s collection.

About the Speakers
Winner of the 2024 Prix Powerhouse and the Claudine and Stephen Bronfman Fellowship in Contemporary Art, Lynn Kodeih holds degrees in literary studies, theatre, and visual arts from universities in Lebanon and Canada. Her work has been presented in Canada and abroad, including at Galérie de l’UQAM, SAW Centre in Ottawa, the Kuntsbanken Performance Festival in Hamar, Norway, the International Film Festival Rotterdam, the Transart Triennale in Berlin, Homeworks – Ashkal Alwan, and the Beirut Art Center.

Laura Vigo, Curator of Asian Art and Archaeology at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, was involved in the installation of the permanent galleries of the MMFA’s Wing for the Arts of One World. In 2022, she inaugurated the Narinder Singh and Satinder Kaur Kapany collection of Sikh art. She was also the curator of the Montreal presentation of Obsession: Sir William Van Horne’s Japanese Ceramics in 2019 as well as Tōkaidō: Dreamscapes by Andō Hiroshige. Laura Vigo has a BA in Chinese Language and Art History from Ca’ Foscari University of Venice, as well as an MA in Asian Art and Archaeology, a postgraduate diploma in Asian Art, and a PhD in Archaeology from the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), University of London, United Kingdom.

About the Impressions Residency
Since its launch in 2013, this residency has been a springboard for numerous emerging artists, including Karen Tam, Naghmeh Sharifi, Pansee Atta, Ari Bayuaji, Jobena Petonoquot, Leila Zelli, Nayla Dabaji, Ahreum Lee, Anahita Norouzi, Jinjoo Yang, and Santiago Tamayo Soler. Thanks to the support of the Conseil des arts de Montréal, Lynn Kodeih will receive a grant of $9,000, which will enable her to carry out research at the MMFA that will serve in the creation of her art.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Location: The event will be held in The Salon, located on the second floor of the Jean-Noël Desmarais Pavilion. Admission is free. Places are limited.

Reservation terms: Tickets will be distributed onsite at the ticket office on the day of the event on a first-come, first-served basis.
