Why is it called 1860?
The 1860 Society takes its name from the year the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, the oldest art museum in Canada, was created. The date marks the starting point of an extraordinary history of cultural creation, dissemination, and philanthropy.
The 1860 Society embodies this heritage and reflects the vision of a museum that is constantly evolving, supported by the commitment of passionate patrons and partners. The 1860 Society members are part of a philanthropic movement that is helping shape the future of the MMFA while honouring its deep roots.
