Located in the heart of downtown Montreal, the MMFA is easy to get to:
Metro: A short walk from the Guy-Concordia or Peel stations. REM Light Rail: Get off at McGill station; the Museum is a pleasant 10-15 minute walk away. By car: Several paid parking lots are located within walking distance of the Museum, including the LB parking garage at Concordia University’s J.W. McConnell Pavilion, located at 1453 Mackay Street. 
By foot: The Museum is on Sherbrooke Street, surrounded by the city’s best dining and shopping. By BIXI: For an eco-friendly and practical way to get around, rent a BIXI bike from one of the many stations near the Museum.
The Museum doesn’t have a private parking lot but there are several paid parking lots within walking distance of the MMFA, including the LB parking garage at Concordia University’s J.W. McConnell Pavilion, located at 1453 Mackay Street. We also encourage you to use public transit for a hassle-free arrival.
For our visitors with reduced mobility, metered parking spots reserved for holders of a disabled parking permit are available nearby: in the area of 3410 Du Musée Avenue and on Crescent Street, near La Guilde.

It’s not mandatory, but we strongly recommend purchasing your tickets in advance.

Yes, every visitor must have an admission ticket, regardless of age. However, admission is free at all times for those 25 and under!
It’s our way of making culture accessible to the next generation, without exception.
Families are welcome at the Museum! You can move around freely with your stroller and diaper bag.

“Jogging” and “all-terrain” strollers are not permitted. Back-mounted baby carriers are not permitted.
The Museum does not yet have a designated nursing area. Please feel free to breastfeed or bottle-feed your baby wherever you feel most comfortable.
If you require a quieter or more private space, our staff will be happy to guide you to a suitable spot.
Yes. However, to reduce wait times, we encourage you to pack light and avoid bringing bulky objects to the Museum.
For the safety and comfort of all, backpacks of all sizes, bags larger than 30 x 40 cm, food and water bottles (even if empty!) must be checked at the cloakroom.
Small bags (less than 29 x 39 cm) and handbags are allowed in the galleries, but are subject to visual inspection by an MMFA security guard.
Note: The checking of suitcases and other bulky items is subject to a fee. We reserve the right to refuse certain objects on days when there is a high volume of visitors.

In order to preserve the works on display for future generations, the Museum’s galleries are equipped with electronic motion-detection and video surveillance systems.

However, at all times…
Video recording is forbidden. Use of a flash is forbidden. Use of a tripod is forbidden. Use of a selfie stick is forbidden.

Yes. The use of cell phones is permitted in the Museum’s public spaces. However, to avoid disturbing other visitors, we ask that you keep your phone on vibrate mode, speak quietly and refrain from using the speakerphone or hands-free mode.
No. For security reasons, backpacks of all sizes and large bags (over 30 x 40 cm) must be left in the cloakroom.

However, water fountains and dedicated dining areas are available; our staff will be happy to show you where they are located. For a meal break, we also invite you to take advantage of the food offerings at Aube Café, located on the second floor of the Jean-Noël Desmarais Pavilion.
Although eating and drinking are not allowed in the MMFA’s galleries, feel free to breastfeed or bottle feed your baby anywhere you feel comfortable.
Yes, pencil sketching is permitted. We encourage you to draw inspiration from what you observe! To protect the works, and for your own comfort:
In the exhibition galleries
Pencil sketching is permitted. Folding stools are available on demand (subject to availability). Make sure you do not impede the flow of visitors in the galleries while sketching.
However, at all times...
The use of ballpoint and fountain pens, ink and watercolour is prohibited at all times. Chairs and easels are prohibited.
Note: The Museum reserves the right to suspend its sketching policy during peak hours.

For a peaceful visit, we recommend visiting the Museum on weekday mornings. That’s the best time to enjoy the exhibitions in a quieter atmosphere.
Are you more of a night owl? Take advantage of the chance to visit the temporary major exhibition on Wednesday evenings in a relaxed, end-of-the-day atmosphere.
Please note that, on Wednesday evenings, only the temporary major exhibition remains open after 5 p.m. Our permanent exhibitions close at the usual time.
Our pavilions are connected by underground passages, allowing you to explore the entire Museum without ever having to go outside or put your coat back on.

Yes. You’ll find benches and rest areas throughout our pavilions, allowing you to explore the Museum to your heart’s desire.
If you’re planning a lengthy visit, don’t hesitate to ask our team for a lightweight folding stool (subject to availability). They’re easy to carry and you'll be comfortable wherever your inspiration takes you.
Absolutely! You can apply the full cost of your exhibition ticket toward an MMFA membership on the very same day. Just stop by the Members Desk before you leave, to complete the upgrade.
