Library

Established by the Art Association of Montreal (now the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts) in 1882 and originally known as the Reading Room, the MMFA Library is the oldest repository of its kind in Canada.
The Library’s collection has grown over the years thanks to many generous donors, annual purchases and the catalogue exchange program established with other museums throughout the world.
The collection comprises specialized art monographs, serial publications, rare books and auction catalogues. It also includes documentation files on artists and designers (listed in the Artists in Canada database).
Services
The Library is not open to the public, but reference services are offered via email.
Materials in the collection are available through interlibrary loan.
