This still life - a rarity for Berczy – is probably painted on a book cover. Since the species represented (nasturtium, rose, carnation, delphinium, sweat pea, marigold) were as common in Europe as in North America, it is impossible to say whether it was executed in Canada or brought here by the artist from Europe. It attests to his interest in the old models and his skill with small-format compositions.
