The Beach at Dinard

Oil on canvas

43.2 x 61 cm

Gift of the Honourable and Mrs. Joseph-Édouard Perreault, inv. 1975.12

Quebec and Canadian Art

Aware of and open to modern trends, in 1907 Clarence Gagnon began painting in the lighter, more luminous palette seen in The Beach at Dinard. The successive planes of tents and groups of figures as well as the play of shadow and light on the sand, convey an effect of depth.
