Combining high-tech techniques with traditional macramé creates a lace-like pattern from knotted cord. Marcel Wanders devised this transparent and lightweight chair by transforming a soft, shapeless object into a three-dimensional form. In a collaboration with Delft Technical University and the Dutch design collective Droog, hand-knotted aramid fibre was wound around a carbon core, then dipped in epoxy resin to harden. Acclaimed for his experimental approach to materials and techniques, Wanders believes that form should follow process, rather than function.
