The Almoravid period is characterized by a great surge in textile production. This fragment depicts an arrangement of birds executed in various coloured threads between architectural motifs, such as pillars and archways. The textile fragment is from a silk and gold tapestry that originally formed the alb of Abbot Biure (d. 1351) from the monastery of Sant Cugat del Vallès in Barcelona.
