Fondly called Bal Guru (Child Guru), the Eighth Guru was not even eight years old when he passed away in 1664. He reigned only three years after his father Guru Har Rai bestowed him the throne. The young Guru Har Krishan was providing solace to the sick during an epidemic in Delhi when he succumbed to smallpox. His life, albeit short, strengthened the foundation of Sikhism by exemplifying self-sacrifice, truthfulness, care for others and fearless resolve.
