Stéphane La Rue’s practice pushes the limits of formalism and monochrome painting. By shaping his wooden supports, the artist makes the resulting sculptural planes part of the work and allows the sections left bare to bring out the colour and luminosity of all the surfaces. Through this system that varies thickness and orientation of painted angles, the process of colour application and choice of format is highlighted. Countless explorations of perception can thus arise.
