This painting is part of the “Petit Palais” series, inspired by a visit Esteban Jefferson made to the Museum of the same name in Paris. The artist was struck by the lack of information about two busts of African figures thoughtlessly placed behind the ticket counter, evocative of the treatment historically reserved for Black subjects and artists. This series marks a turning point in his work: he now only details the elements he wishes to draw attention to. Even if this visitor was the only one interested in the sculptures she photographed, we see her here, afterwards, absorbed by her cell phone screen.
