Inspired by abstract painting and architecture, American artist Eric N. Mack uses non-traditional materials, including textiles, which he sometimes combines with textual and photographic elements to create ephemeral constructions evocative of campsites or playhouses. Colour, form and gesture – characteristics of pictorial vocabulary – are at the heart of his process that reinterprets painting conventions. Composed of plain and patterned fabrics, some of which are tie-dyed, Paramount extends along the floor, activating the exhibition space and inviting us to reimagine what constitutes a painting.
