Caroline Monnet’s curvaceous Amik (beaver) chair blends art and design, modernism and tradition. Inspired by her Anishinaabe heritage and the story of the giant beaver slapping its tail against the Earth to create the sloping hills of the Outaouais region, the amply proportioned chair provides space to gather and rest. Made in collaboration with Humble Nature from locally sourced ash-wood veneer in an edition of ten, it exemplifies a modernist economy of materials and techniques imbued with a strong sense of place.
