Lesson #4 - Sound

Through diegetic and non-diegetic sound, music and silence, this session examines how what we hear can build tension, reveal information, and transform the meaning of what we see. Brian De Palma’s BLOW OUT offers a perfect exploration of cinema’s invisible language.

Synopsis

A sound technician from Philadelphia, while recording sounds for a low-budget slasher film, unintentionally captures audio evidence of an assassination plot.

Cinéma du Musée is proud to announce the launch of FILM 101, a new series dedicated to film appreciation and education.

Designed for aspiring cinephiles, lifelong students, and lovers of classic cinema, FILM 101 presents five films that explore the language of the seventh art.

Throughout the series, participants will discover fundamental elements of cinematic language and develop the tools needed to better observe, analyze, and discuss the art of filmmaking. Each screening will be accompanied by a short introduction to provide context on the subject, followed by an informal discussion to deepen the analysis and connect with fellow film lovers.
