“The seventh art has come to the Museum, in the heart of downtown. This is the largest independent theatre and one of the few to provide programming in both French and English in the west end of Montreal. The Cinéma du Musée will features current independent and international fiction and documentary films.”

Nathalie Bondil, Director General and Chief Curator of the MMFA

A state-of-the-art cinematic experience

This project could not have been realized without the support of a generous anonymous donor. Major renovation work carried out by the MMFA in summer 2018 has transformed Maxwell Cummings Auditorium into a cinema seating 291. Connected to the Museum’s magnificent Gallery of Bronzes, the new Maxwell-Cummings auditorium is the ideal space for hosting important premieres and special events.

For its part, the screening room of the Cinéma du Musée has been equipped with a Barco Smart Laser projector, a Dolby 7.1 sound system, a DCP (Digital Cinema Package), and a larger screen, much to the delight of film buff. The resulting superior quality of the projections will be sure to satisfy the most discernin of moviegoers.
