Visit the Alanis Obomsawin exhibition free of charge on National Indigenous Day, Friday, June 21, 2019

Friday, June 21, 2019, is National Indigenous Day. To highlight this occasion and celebrate the artist, the MMFA is offering free access to the exhibition Alanis Obomsawin, Printmaker. An Artist and her Nation: The Waban-Aki Basketmakers of Odanak.

As a distinguished filmmaker, renowned artist and cultural treasure to all, Alanis Obomsawin is a member of the Waban-Aki Nation. This is the very first museum retrospective to showcase the artist, and will feature more than 40 prints, 4 printing plates, and a dozen basketwoven creations by members of the Odanak community.

Inspired by her dreams, as well as the traditions, suffering and grievances of her people – which are not unlike those made by other indigenous communities – Obomsawin’s work shows that her talents extend far beyond movies and music.
