Quebec and Canadian Art

When Maurice Cullen returned from France, he adapted the lessons of Impressionism to local subject matter, exploring the changing effects of light and the unique atmosphere of the Canadian landscape, particularly in winter. He found that “snow borrows the colours of the sky and sun. It is blue, it is mauve, it is grey, even black, but never entirely white.”
