This head is linked to the artistic circles of the French court, particularly in respect to its wavy hair and beard. However, it is also distinguished by the simplicity of the features and the intentionally dissymmetric treatment of pilosity. The type of face, the rendering of the hair and, particularly, the carving of the eyes are similar to the art then produced in the area of southern and south-western France, although it is not possible at this time to link this head to a specific workshop.
