Diziani was a painter of the eighteenth century, active both in his native Veneto and in Dresden, he was profoundly influenced by Ricci and Giovanni Baptista Tiepolo. This is a sketch for the ceiling of the Sala del Trionfo di Venezia, in the palace of Ca’Contarini a San Beneto. The figure of Fame, with a trumpet, on the right, was later eliminated, but the figures of Chronos, or time, and History, who is shown winged, as required by Ripa, are little changed.
