Grandson of Maurice Denis, the sculptor Poncet studied with Zadkine and is style is close to Arp. A remarkable expression of radiantly pure, lifelike form, Poncet’s sculpture is a marvel of balance and harmony. His monumental works indicate his passion for materiality, shape and light.

Thanks to the support of his friend, Canadian businessman Nathan Cummings, Poncet developed an extremely personal sculptural vocabulary. Making it possible for him to work at Carol Nicoli’s sculpture studio (Nicoli Studi) in Carrara, Italy, home to magnificent marble quarries, his patron commissioned eighteen sculptures from the artist in 1965. Sisterwhite is one of those works. At once ethereal and massive, an example of the clarity of Poncet’s conception of the act of sculpture, the elegantly smooth curves of its organic, oval form evoke both the natural and the geometric.
