Pendants such as this are stylized representations of an animal with spread wings. They were likely worn by people of high rank. In Sitio Conte in Panama, for example, one of them was found on the body of an old man whose tomb also had many gold, greenstone and bone ornaments, approximately 180 ceramic vessels, and even the remains of three people sacrificed to accompany him in death.
