About the lecture
From humble start in Salaberry-de-Valleyfield, Quebec, to “father of Quebec printmaking,” this talk will provide an introduction to the trajectory of Albert Dumouchel’s artistic career, with a focus on his printmaking production, highlighting his perpetual exploration of a variety of media and imagery. Through an examination of the works in the exhibition that MMFA has acquired from the 1950s onward, it will chronicle the key role Dumouchel played in the development of modernity in Montreal. It will also highlight the recognition the artist received from a number of cultural institutions during his lifetime, thus drawing attention to an exceptional artistic practice that is not widely known today.
