Dujka Smoje – The Lyric Poetry of the Troubadours

Lecture

SOLD OUT

As musicians and poets, troubadours found the right "words and sounds" to sing, in the Occitan language, of the
fin'amor, or courtly love. Rooted in the chivalrous society at the time of the Crusades, this new art of living celebrated the Lady, an idealized woman capable of inspiring outpourings of sublime, passionate and mysterious love. The source of this lyric poetry created waves across the centuries, up until our day. Was it the troubadours who invented Love as we know it in Western societies?

Presented in French.

In connection with the Diabolus in Musica Ensemble concert on October 23

Part of the Reverdies Montreal Medieval Music Days

The lecture will take place at the Salon, Jean-Noël Desmarais Pavilion, Level 2.
