Ensemble Caprice - Motezuma - Antonio Vivaldi

Ensemble Caprice

In collaboration with the Bach Society of Minnesota and Early Music Seattle.

This prodigious operatic work by Vivaldi, written at the height of his career, has only come down to us in an incomplete form. Matthias Maute has undertaken the reconstruction of this great work. Let yourself be transported by the incredible story of Montezuma, the famous Aztec emperor, as he resists the power of the Conquistador Fernando Cortés, whose brother marries Montezuma’s daughter! The opera will be performed in a concert version, with the recitatives being recited by an actor.

** We have retained the original spelling of the name as used by Luigi Giusti in his 1733 libretto.
